The SBM-G is making rapid strides as the number of districts declared ODF in the country crosses the 400 mark!

Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018

A nationwide rural sanitation survey, the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018, will be conducted in all districts of the country in August 2018.The survey will rank all districts and States on their performance on key Swachhata parameters.

Did You Know?

A village declares itself ODF through a resolution passed by the Gram Sabha. The State further verifies the declaration, reviewing every household in the village at least once. A focused tracking by the Centre resulted in 54,000 villages being verified in June alone. As of today, 82% of the 3.9 lakh ODF villages in the country have already been verified.

Launched in April 2016, this is an initiative under the SBM, inspired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi's vision to engage all Union Ministries and Departments in Swachhata-related activities, thereby making Swachhata "everyone's business".

Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC)
(1st-15th June 2018)

  • The theme of swachhata integrated with World Environment Day through the “Beat Plastic Pollution” campaign
  • Intensive cleaning of 24 beaches and 24 riverfronts was taken up across the country
  • 10,000 school students participated in the mini-marathon- Envirothon in New Delhi

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)
(1st-15th June 2018)

  • Renovation of Public Toilets near Pragati Vihar Hostel, New Delhi
  • Award to clean offices
  • Conducted competition for innovative ideas on Swachhata in the Ministry

  • Introduced the concept of Green Haat in villages surrounding coal-mines
  • Installation of Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine at school in Charahi, Jharkhand
  • Release of a Postal Stamp (Rs 5) on Swachhata

Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises
(16th-30th June 2018)

  • Awareness Campaigns on Swachhata by MSME and its Field Offices
  • Adopted Jagatpur Village in New Delhi and Vathuruthi Slum in Cochin for one year O&M for sanitation and hygiene
  • Beach-cleaning activities at Bhubaneswar and river cleaning activities at New Delhi and Varanasi
  • Swachhata Pakhwada Award given in 7 different categories

STORY OF THE MONTH

Swachh Jeevika, Swachh Bihar

Bihar launched the Swachh Jeevika campaign on July 1st, 2018. The campaign will, over 45 days, mobilize toilet construction at the homes of approx 36.4 lakh SHG members associated with Bihar’s Jeevika programme. On Day 1 of a “Gaddha Khodo” drive launched under this campaign, pits were dug for 1.2 lakh toilets across the State.
