Rural India has crossed the mark of 4 lakh ODF villages, having built over 8 crore toilets since the launch of the SBM in 2014.

Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018
With the jan andolan sweeping the nation, more than 1 crore people have already participated in SSG 2018. As on 28th August 2018 the SSG mobile app has been downloaded by more than 45 lakh people on the Google Play Store and is being used to record citizens’ online feedback under SSG.

Swachhata Pakhwada Highlights
July, 2018
Launched in April 2016, this is an initiative under the SBM, inspired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi's vision to engage all Union Ministries and Departments in Swachhata-related activities, thereby making Swachhata "everyone's business".

- Supported development of Robot Bandicoot, the manhole cleaning Robot
- Donated Waste handling Truck and Bicycles to Guwahati Municipal Corporation

Impact of Sanitation

Health Impact
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (2017) found 46% higher cases of diarrhoea, 58% higher cases of wasting and 78% higher cases of worms among children in non-ODF areas compared to ODF-areas.
|
Financial and Economic Impact
UNICEF (2017) estimated that each family in an ODF village in India saves Rs. 50,000 per year on account of avoided medical costs, time savings and value of lives saved.

Impact by way of lives saved
WHO (2018) estimated that the SBM will account for over 3 lakh avoided diarrhoeal deaths by 2019. Over 1.4 crore Disability Adjusted Life Years will also be avoided.

Impact on gender equality
(IMF) 2017 reported 10% reduction in time spent by women involved in household and childcare, 1.5% increase in the proportion of women in the workforce and 1.4% increase in real GDP, due to improved access to sanitation facilities.
