The Final Lap
The Swachh Bharat Mission is now in its final year of implementation with the rural sanitation coverage having increased from 39% at the launch, in October 2014, to over 98% today. The last 4 and a half years have seen a jump of over 2.5 times of progress as compared to the preceding 67 years since independence in terms of sanitation coverage!

Swachhata Pakhwada Highlights
December, 2018
Launched in April 2016, Swachhata Pakhwada is an initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission. It is inspired by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's vision to engage all Union Ministries and Departments in Swachhata-related activities, thereby making Swachhata "everyone's business".

(1st-15th December)
- The Indian Coast Guard carried out special Coastal Cleanup activities at all the Coastal Coast Guard Establishments
- Cantonments across the country participated through School awareness programme, distribution of pamphlets, Nukkad Natak, creation of Solid Waste Management infrastructure and shramdaan activities
- Border Roads Organisation organised awareness camp and took initiative for cleanliness of labour accommodation
- The Shillong Cantonment Board appointed Swachh Prahari from the public to have maximum participation
- Swachhata prize and awards were given at field level for the good work during the Swachhata Pakhwada

(1st-15th December)
- Jawans from different BSF camps actively participated in awareness generation activities, tree plantations, public rallies, cleaning of strategic high footfall areas
- Organized painting competition on Swachhata theme among school students
- Lady Constables of BSF Kharkan Camp, Hoshiarpur, Punjab played the role of Swachhagrahis during Swachhata Pakhwada
- Over 3000 BSF Jawans took Swachhata pledge and took part in Swachhata activities
- Swachhata talks were organised to sensitize sanitation staff, school students and hospital staffs regarding collection and segregation of garbage

(16th-31st December)
- Swachhata seminar, plantation drive and health camps were organised at community level
- Swachhata activities were undertaken for the cattle rearers and fishermen
- Swachhata pamphlets were distributed and Nukkad Nataks were organised at different market places

- A Swachhata awareness workshop was organised to sensitize Ministry staff
