Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya
MDWS launched a month-long campaign, Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya (SSS), from 1st to 31st January 2019 to mobilise households to decorate their toilets and give them a facelift. By the end of the campaign, the States have reported a cumulative of 1.34 crore toilets painted under the SSS campaign.

SLWM Workshop
A National Workshop on Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) was organised on 30th and 31st January in New Delhi. Emphasising the importance of Fecal Sludge Management (FSM) and Galvanising Organic Bio-Agro Resource-dhan (GOBARdhan) in rural areas, the workshop also covered Plastic Waste Management, Grey Water Management, featured case studies from across the country, and included a field visit to Ghaziabad district to study the work done on SLWM and FSM.

Swachhata Pakhwada Highlights
January, 2019
Launched in April 2016, this is an initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Swachhata Pakhwada is inspired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's vision to engage all Union Ministries and Departments in Swachhata-related activities, thereby making Swachhata "everyone's business”.

Ministry of External Affairs
(1st - 15th January)
- A “Plastic Audit” was conducted in MEA office buildings. Based on the report, supply of packaged water PET bottles has been discontinued in MEA
- More than 50 Consulate Generals and Embassies of India observed Swachhata Pakhwada. Swachhata messages were framed and fixed in all offices, sections, canteens and toilets
- Extensive cleanliness drives were organised at MEA office buildings including Passport offices, Residential complexes, Training institutes and Libraries
- Children participated in a Swachhata poster making events and a cleaning & plantation drive at the MEA complex at Chanakyapuri, New Delhi

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways
(1st - 15th January)
- Cleaning of Shally lake, Roing, Arunachal Pradesh, was undertaken by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited
- Public awareness drives were organised on the importance of segregation of waste
- School swachhata awareness activities- Mega Rallies, Drawing competitions, distribution of dustbins and Sanitary material
- Toll Plaza employees organised a Swachhata workshop for Truck Drivers and toll Plazas were cleaned across the country
- Mega shramdaan activities were undertaken to remove garbage from public places, bus stands along with distribution of dustbins at public places

(16th - 31st January)
- PIB Srinagar collaborated with Field Outreach Bureau for a one day Swachhata awareness program
- Books depicting Swachhata Initiatives “Clean Jungle Tales” distributed to Children during workshop organized by the department
- National Film Archive of India has displayed Publicity banner on Swachhata Pakhwada in the office premise and surroundings to sensitize employees and public at large
- Special Swachhata campaign was launched through Twitter, Facebook and Instagram medium

(16th - 31st January)
- Hyderabad GST and Custom renovated School toilets and constructed hand wash block in School at Uppal, Hyderabad. Swachhata kits were also distributed
- All wings of Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC)-CGST organised Swachhata competition and awarded sections for their exemplary work
- All section of the department took part in Slogan writing, Shramdaan and plantation drives
- Special teams were formed to monitor cleanliness level at various offices
- Swachhata marches were organised across the country to generate awareness regarding Swachhata

The SSS momentum has spread far and wide with this Community Sanitary Complex in Drass, Kargil, taking the campaign to even one of the coldest places in the country!
